What's Happening This WeekAscension Sunday On Ascension Sunday, our Anglican congregation gathers to commemorate a pivotal moment in Christian faith: the ascent of Jesus Christ into heaven forty days after His resurrection. This holy day not only marks the culmination of Jesus' earthly ministry but also the beginning of His sovereign reign at the right hand of the Father. As we celebrate this glorious event, we are reminded of Christ's parting promise to send the Holy Spirit to guide and empower His followers, ensuring that we are never alone. This promise bridges the anticipation of Pentecost and invites us to live in hopeful expectancy of that power. Ascension Sunday calls us to lift our eyes heavenward and to set our minds on things above, affirming our mission to be His witnesses to the ends of the earth. As we engage in this celestial celebration, may we also find strength and inspiration to carry forward the work of the Kingdom, emboldened by the ever-present Spirit soon to come. |

Spring "Dugnad"A Community Cleanup Event On Sunday May 5th, a bright Sunday morning following worship service, our St Michael’s community gathered for the inaugural spring “dugnad.” For those unfamiliar with the term, a “dugnad” is a Norwegian tradition where neighbours come together to work on shared tasks, fostering a sense of camaraderie and collective responsibility. It began with a delightful potluck meal. Hotdogs and all the fixings’, prepared by Virginia’s team, shared the table with a selection of DaGuy’s leftovers along with a half a dozen colourful salads. And let’s not forget the dessert buffet—a sweet haven of treats, from chocolate chip cookies to home baked cakes to lemon meringue pie, it was a feast fit for a community that knows the value of breaking bread together! But we weren’t there just to indulge our taste buds. Armed with lists of tasks, we split into teams and dispersed throughout the church building. Our mission: to tackle the dust, clutter, and neglected corners that had accumulated over time. Some wielded brooms, others dust cloths, and a few brave souls even took on the cobwebs high up in the rafters. As we worked, conversations flowed freely. New friendships formed, and old bonds strengthened. The sound of laughter mixed with the hum of vacuum cleaners, creating a symphony of community spirit. We discovered forgotten treasures—a vintage hymn book, owned by the former long-time organmaster along with long forgotten books holding words of wisdom for our faith. By mid afternoon great progress had been made. The sanctuary sparkled, the fellowship hall gleamed, and the library was lovingly dusted and re-organized. We stood back, proud of what we’d accomplished together, with a renewed sense of purpose and pride in our shared space. And so, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who joined in. To Virginia and her team for stepping in to create an enticing buffet. To all those who contributed food to our potluck. To Theresa who kindly guided the crews. To each person who swept, scrubbed, dusted, and sorted. Our spring “dugnad” was more than a cleanup; it was a celebration of community, a reminder that when we come together, we can achieve great things. So here’s to the hotdogs, the salads, and the homemade treats. Here’s to dusty corners transformed into sacred spaces. And most of all, here’s to our community—for showing that when we work together, we can make our world a little brighter, one “dugnad” at a time. Thank you to all who joined in! |
